In this Dharma Assembly of the Tomb-Sweeping Day, before leading us to chant the “The Amitabha Sutra”, the Teacher guided us to correct our minds so that with the heart of “commemorating and thanking the ancestors and blessing the sentient beings”, we could do the following solemn Sutra chanting with our behaviors, speech and mind abiding by the Dharma.
After the Dharma Assembly, in response to the attendants’ requests and by explaining the profound in simple language, the Teacher guided us to think about the significance of tidying up the gravesite on the Tomb Sweeping Day─carefully facing the big issue of life and death and remembering and thanking the goodness that the ancestors left to us.
The Teacher then pointed out that when we prepare or attend a Dharma Assembly which enables us to dedicate the merits of chanting the Sutra to the ancestors and the sentient beings, we must have such a cognition in our mindset: it is a precious opportunity to make both the deceased and the living transform and improve again through the blessings of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.
Therefore, when doing everything in the process of preparing and attending the Dharma Assembly, we should be careful, happy and sincere rather than just walking through the things or doing the things well superficially (without true heart and temperature). Otherwise, it still takes us time and physical effort, but we only get the credit for hard work without any gains in heart, how can we obtain any merits from heart? And what can we take to bless and dedicate to the ancestors and the sentient beings who we want to bless? In addition, the similarly incorrect
mentality of preparing the Dharma Assembly should also appear when we face our daily work, life and interpersonal relationships, no wonder there are so many obstacles and difficulties in our lives.
Thank the Teacher for teaching us the above according to our individual situation. The students also shared their incredible harvest when learning from the Teacher and the wonderful differences between "the incorrect mentality"(before) and "the correct mentality"(after) of preparing the Dharma Assembly so that the attendants felt the importance of “mentality” and made vows to be mindful and correct the mentality to bring wonderful energy to others and ourselves.
Attendants’ reflection after the Dharma Assembly:
I am deeply grateful to our Teacher for leading the Dharma Assembly for us, guiding us to chant the sutra, teaching and giving the guidance to us, and enabling us to attend the holy Dharma Assembly in our own Bodhimanda, so that under the blessings of Buddha and the Bodhisattvas and the Teacher’s guidance, we could see our minds and gain the precious opportunity to correct our minds.
In fact, the hardest work was taken by the Teacher who gave us the field of merits and let us serve as staff members in preparing the Dharma Assembly so that we could see the problems in our “minds” through conducting affairs. We are deeply appreciated the Teacher Duan’s compassion to save one by one and protect us from continuously creating the bad karma!
Thank the Teacher very much for leading us to chant the Sutra in the Dharma Assembly and teaching the Dharma for us in accordance with our individual situation.
Under the Teacher’s leading, I feel that we were not just chanting with the mouth in every Dharma Assembly, the Teacher leads us to prepare our hearts and then we can use the “heart" to chant. With adjusting my heart again and again, I am more touched and feel the extraordinariness of every Dharma Assembly more. I am so grateful to the Teacher for her compassion of leading and teachings us in such a way.
I sincerely dedicate all the Dharma benefits and merits to all the sentient beings and Buddhahood.
