本次講座,老師特別數天前發LINE通知我們說,這次要學習十分重要的「校量布施功德緣品第十」。所以這天我們都帶著歡喜心、欣樂心前來。

 

Before this lecture, the Teacher especially sent us a LINE message a few days ago to inform us that we will learn the very important "Chapter 10: Comparing the Conditions and Virtues of Giving" in the coming lecture. So we all came with delightful and joyful heart on this day.

老師為了譲我們真正了解第十品經文裡,有關布施及迴向的含義,一開始,條理分明地循序分析,讓我們明白:我們之所以在輪迴痛苦中無法離開,是因為我們對所擁有的貪愛不捨,例如身體貪愛舒適安逸、心理上的渴求肯定認同。老師提到我們凡夫初學還做不到斷貪、止貪,但是我們至少先承認自己有哪些貪,這不是道德上的自責,而是幫助我們得以保持覺知,使自己在面對「欲求」時,可以適可而止,練習面對欲求時,少一點貪。而布施,正是治貪的方便法,也是幫助我們達到究竟離苦得樂的第一步。

 

In order to help us understand the meaning of giving and dedication in the Chapter 10, the Teacher began with a clear and orderly analysis to make us understand the reason why we are unable to leave the suffering samsara is just that we crave for our belongings, such as a craving for comfort and ease, and psychological desire for affirmation. The Teacher mentioned that we ordinary people as beginners of Dharma learning still can't live without craving or stop craving, but at least we admit that we have craving at first. It is not moral self-blaming, but helps us keep awareness when we face "Desire", then we can properly deal with the desire and practice to reduce a little craving when we face the desire. Giving, is not only the convenient way to counter craving, but also the first step to help us achieve the first step of gaining the ultimate happiness and keeping from sufferings.

在解說過程中,老師特別針對大家最容易做卻不做的「無畏施」,進行了精闢分析,於是才明白我們常常說「我不好意思去關心或安慰别人」,其實是在潛意識深處,我們害怕對方在面對我們的關心時,表現出不重視或不開心,而這害怕,反映了我們連在對他人關心時,都還在貪求、索討對方的肯定,想想真是顛倒,猶如對一個正在溺水的人索討東西。於是,當我們對他人進行「無畏施」(關心安慰他人)時,正好就對治了我們這份扭曲的心理貪求。

 

In the process of explanation, the Teacher made an incisive analysis of the "Fearless Giving" which seems to be done most easily but people do not do. Then we realized that we often say that "I am embarrassed to care for or comfort others", in fact, in the depth of the subconsciousness, we are afraid that others will show ignoring or unhappiness about our caring, and the fear reflects that we are still craving and asking for the affirmation of others even when we express our caring to others. It is very reverse, just like asking for things from a drowning person. Therefore, when we do "fearless giving" to others(care for and comfort others), we are dealing with our distorted psychological greed.

因此布施的第一個受益者就是自己了。接著,老師在解説第十品所言,布施後是否將功德迴向給法界眾生,對布施的果報影響甚鉅,特別以殊勝的華嚴義,開闡了何謂迴向。

 

Therefore, the first beneficiary of the giving is actually oneself. The Teacher continued to explain, whether or not dedicating the merits to the sentient beings of Dharma realm after doing the "Giving" has huge impact to the result of "Giving". And the Teacher especially illustrated that "What is dedication?" with the remarkable rationales of the Hua-yen (Avatamsaka) Sutra.

聽完老師深入淺出的分析講述,我們再進入第十品經文,就能輕鬆地明白文字背後的義理,並且知道如何在生活及修行裡做布施─帶領我們究竟離苦得樂的自力救濟方法。感恩三寶及老師,使我們得到了這個既利他又利己的殊勝方法。

 

After listening to the Teacher's in-depth analysis, when we entered the chapter 10, we easily understood the rationales behind the text, and knew in life and practice how to do “Giving”--the self-reliance method that leads us away from sufferings and to gain happiness. Thanks to the Buddha, Dharma, Sangha and the Teacher, for enabling us to get this wonderful method of benefiting both ourselves and others.

九月二十一日這一天,剛好是台灣921地震二十周年,我們謹以本日聽經聞法的功德,盡數迴向給這片土地乃至法界所有眾生。

On the day of September 21, it happened to be the 20th anniversary of the 921 Earthquake in Taiwan. We would like to return all the merits of listening to the Sutra lecture and learning the Dharma today to all the sentient beings in this land and even the Dharma Realm.
