To celebrate the 7th anniversary of the Pure Classroom and the 4th anniversary of the Association of Pure Buddhist (APB), we held a Dharma Assembly of chanting the three chapters of “Avatamsaka Sutra”: “Pure Conduct, Brahma Conduct and Discourse on Samantabhadra's Beneficence Aspirations” in the APB Study on November 28. The Teacher, Susan Duan, led us to chant the Sutra and holy name with joy and respect, immersing in the warmth of the wisdom from Dharma.
After the Sutra chanting was successfully completed, the Teacher gave us instruction at our invitation. The Teacher took the latest article of Orlando Facebook fan page---"Get rid of kidnapping from the constraint mode of our primary family" as a subject, teaching us what exactly should we "practice"? In fact, the most straightforward thing we are able to and should practice are to get rid of those various behavioral or thinking patterns which were shaped by our primary family now make us unhappy.
Those patterns may be constantly ingratiating oneself with others arising from deficiency of failing to get the love we desire; may be over-defensive or competitive mentality arising from fearing to be compared and denied.
Over the years, after the Teachers’ subconscious consultation, healing and teaching, we gradually have the basic ability to see and understand some patterns in our mind, but the more important is that we are “able to aware" ourselves trapping in some patterns again. In order to have the ability of “awaring”, it relies on the regular practice of meditation to cultivate awareness.
Then, several students also shared their own experiences. For example, one said after awaring that "Oh, I am angry with my colleagues who are idle, it is because I unconsciously copy the pattern from primary family---I was angry that my younger brother could get my mother’s love without doing anything", her anger disappeared naturally.
Everyone is very grateful to get the Teacher’s instruction to light up our hearts, so that we can calm down, review, and reflect the direction of our practice from our busy life which is like a spinning top. Hopefully we can keep practicing meditation diligently for cultivating clearer and clearer awareness, to be aware of each moment, no longer be trapped by the unsuitable and unhealthy patterns from the past and become our own true masters.
The Teacher and the students prayed for the birthday of APB and Pure Classroom together.
The Teacher prayed for APB and Pure Classroom's career of benefiting the sentient beings.
